How does Radiesse® work?

Wrinkles are visible because they are depressions that are lower or deeper than surrounding skin.  Light casts shadows into them, making them more noticeable.  If wrinkles can be raised to the same level as surrounding skin, their visibility greatly diminishes because the accompanying shadows will be nearly nonexistent.  This is accomplished by either lowering the surrounding skin or raising the wrinkles.  Chemical peels, dermabrasion, and laser re-surfacing lower the surrounding skin.  Radiesse® raises the depressions or wrinkles.  Radiesse® works with your body, below the skin’s surface, to stimulate the production of collagen and encourage tissue regeneration.  It does more than just temporarily fill-in facial lines and wrinkles ─ it rebuilds your skin’s foundation.  You get immediate results and look younger, longer.  Radiesse® is made of very small, smooth calcium hydroxylapatite (CaHA) microspheres, which are suspended in a water-based gel carrier.  As Radiesse®is injected, the gel and Radiesse microspheres form a “scaffold”, stimulating collagen production and encouraging tissue growth in and around the injection area.  This “partnership” between Radiesse® and your own body creates a natural look, comprised of your own tissue and Radiesse® Microspheres.  Over time, your body absorbs the gel carrier while collagen has started to grow and infiltrate the area, replacing the gel with your own, natural tissue. The Radiesse® Microspheres continue to provide the support and structure for your body to grow new tissue and collagen until the Microspheres are also safely and naturally absorbed into your body.

How long does Radiesse® last?

Clinical studies have shown the average Radiesse® treatment results can last sixteen months or even longer.

How is the procedure preformed?

Using a fine needle, I will inject Radiesse® into your skin under each wrinkle.  The Radiesse® pushes the depressed wrinkle outward, making it less visible.  This procedure involves temporary discomfort associated with the needle.  Once the injection is complete, there is no more discomfort.  You may apply make-up immediately and return to your usual activities.

What are the risks of Radiesse®?

Radiesse® is an FDA-approved, pure, biosynthetically produced substance with an excellent safety profile.
